Question 1: What is Food Technology Study Program?

A: Food Technology is a study program that focuses on overall aspects of food, starting from raw materials, processing, final product and up to storage system.

 
 

Question 2: Will Food Technology students learn how to cook?

A: One of the courses offered in this study program is called ‘Food Processing Technology’, which equips the student with knowledge in a production process of several food products, such as nugget, sausage, noodle and yoghurt. However, this study program did not focus on how to cook those but give more emphasis in food production and analysis of food.

 
 

Question 3: How long does it take to finish this study program? 

A: Students are able to finish this study program for at least 3.5 years. The duration of study differs for each student and based on which semester students enrol for final project as well as completion time in doing their final project.

 
 

Question 4: What programs are offered in Food Technology Study Program at Pelita Harapan University?

A: There are 2 programs offered by Food Technology Study Program, which are a regular streamline (using Indonesia as the main language in classes) and international streamline (using English as the main language in classes). Not only that, students enrolled in the international streamline are able to join Dual Degree program which works together with University of Newcastle, Australia. By joining this program, students will study at University of Newcastle campus for 1 year and finish their study in a total of  4.5 years and entitled with Sarjana Teknologi Pertanian (STP.) and Bachelor of Food Science and Human Nutrition (BFSHN).

 
 

Question 5: Who are the Head and Deputy Head of Food Technology Study Program?

A: Currently the Head of Food Technology Study Program is Ir. W. Donald R. Pokatong, M.Sc., Ph.D. while Deputy Head of Food Technology Study Program is Ratna Handayani, STP, MP.

 
 

Question 6: How many credits do students need to take prior to graduation from Food Technology Study Program?

A: As for 2018, students are required to finish their study with a minimum of 145 credits. 

 
 

Question 7: Are there any laboratory practices done in Food Technology Study Program?

A: There will be laboratory practice(s) in odd and even semesters, where students will do experiments and write a report or finish their worksheets after the laboratory practice.

 
 

Question 8: What type of clothes permitted to be worn at Food Technology Study Program?

A: Due to laboratory practices that may take place every day, students are required to wear a T-shirt, polo or shirts with long pants, such as jeans but not ripped jeans. As for the shoes, students are required to wear sports shoes, sneakers or flat shoes.

 
 

Question 9: What courses offered by Food Technology Study Program?

A: There are 3 types of courses that you may take; liberal art courses, major courses and elective courses. It is important to note that there may be changes in the curriculum, resulting in several courses may not be available to be taken by the students. 

 
 

Question 10: Is it possible for students to change from regular track to international track and vice versa?

A: Students are NOT ALLOWED to take courses different from their track. However, there are several exceptions that allow students to take courses different from their track. Students may consult with their Academic Advisor first and always check enrolled course code from OPCS.
