Semester II
Analytical Chemistry / Kimia Analitik
3 credits
Prerequisite(s): General Chemistry
Analytical Chemistry is a course that provides knowledge focusing on methods and procedures for knowing the substances contained in a sample (both qualitatively and/or quantitatively). This subject covers industrial/factor sampling, food and beverage analysis, clinical and medical analysis, pharmacy, agriculture and environment, criminology analysis, and a review of chemical equilibrium and redox chemical reactions with gravimetry analysis.

 
Organic Chemistry / Kimia Organik
3 credits

Prerequisite(s): General Chemistry
The course includes comprehension of organic chemistry with emphasizes on nomenclature, classification of organic substances, and the reaction of organic compounds. Laboratory work is provided to support the understanding of organic substance characteristics, both physically and chemically.
 
Basic Microbiology / Mikrobiologi Dasar
3 credits
 

Prerequisite(s): Biology
The course includes the knowledge of the historical development of microbiology, microorganism cell structure, cellular metabolism, physiology, and important group of organisms, especially microorganisms. Interactions between microorganisms, microbial diversity was also studied on this course. Microbial development, especially its application in food in general and globally in various other industries were also discussed. In addition, the introduction of microbiological laboratory technique was also studied. Microbiology lab work is given separately.
 
Introduction to Food Technology / Pengantar Teknologi Pangan

Prerequisite(s): None 
The course provides comprehension of the history, prospect and basic concepts of agricultural and food technology. The course also includes discussion of industrial agriculture and the role of technology in industrial agriculture, the development of science and technology in national development, and the basic knowledge of food processing and preservation technology such as the use of low and high temperature, drying, canning, microwave application, extraction and irradiation process, intermediate moisture food, and application of chemical substance (preservative).
 
Christian Religion / Pendidikan Agama Kristen

Prerequisite(s): None 
This course will study about important teaching in the Old Testament based on both historical and cultural background of the time. This course will present historical facts about God's people in the Old Testament and in the New Testament based on his historical, cultural, and literary background. The implications of all topics will be directed toward living spiritually and professionally.
 
World Religion / Pendidikan Agama-Agama Dunia

Prerequisite(s): None 
This course will discuss the nature of religion through the study of major religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Tao, Confucianism, and New Age. The main focus is on the essence of the teachings of each religion. In this lecture will be discussed the religious idea on the framework of inter-religious cooperation and dialogue to build multi-religious Indonesia.
 
Critical Thinking / Logika Terapan

Prerequisite(s): None
This lecture is required for all students of UPH; the goal is to learn the basics of thought and critical reasoning that are characteristic of human dignity as the image of God. The course is designed to introduce the scope and understanding of critical thinking and equip students with the large set of cognitive skills and intellectual readiness needed to effectively identify, analyze and evaluate arguments and claims so that all of his or her life becomes open to the True Truth; to discover and overcome prejudices and personal and group biases; to formulate and present convincing reasons to support the conclusion; and to make sensible, logical, and capable decisions about what he wants to believe and do, especially in pursuit of his life's goal of praising and glorifying God.
 
Introduction to Literature / Pengantar Ilmu Sastra

Prerequisite(s): None
This course teaches students how to comprehend literary work that involves formative aspects: author, social-cultural context, and used language. In addition, to acquire meaning from a literary work, students would critically comment on the worldview contained in the work from a Christian worldview perspective. In one semester, students would be introduced to varieties of literary works from and talk about culture and thought of societies in different areas of the world and times.
